About Keren Ong

Founder and Senior Teacher, ThirdGen Pilates

Keren is a senior teacher with over 13 years of experience teaching Pilates.

Her teaching is rooted in classical Joseph Pilates principles and informed by current movement science. She studied under two distinguished Second Generation Master Teachers: the late Alvin Giam, widely regarded as Singapore's Pilates pioneer, and Pat Guyton, an accomplished teacher, mentor and founder of Pilates Conservatory® (Boulder, Colorado), a comprehensive teacher training and continuing education programme.

In her 30s and 40s, Keren experienced chronic pain in her neck, shoulder, back and knee. She explored multiple approaches, including Traditional Chinese Medicine and chiropractic treatment for her slipped disc and nerve problems. It was Pilates, together with changes in lifestyle and nutrition, that brought lasting relief, strength and confidence in movement.

This lived experience shapes how she teaches today, with empathy, care and safety at the core.

Since 2019, Keren began her education with Pat Guyton Pilates Conservatory®. Using digestible anatomy and simple imagery cues, this approach brings clarity to how Pilates should be performed and also how the human body is designed to move and function in daily life.

In 2025, Keren was certified as a Pilates Conservatory® Master Teacher Trainer. She established ThirdGen Pilates to share this approach with a wider community. Today, ThirdGen Pilates is the first and only Pilates Conservatory® training centre in Asia.

I started ThirdGen Pilates to preserve and deepen the true work of Joseph Pilates – not as a trend but as a disciplined and intelligent system of movement.
I am committed to:
  • Teach Pilates as a method, a concept, not a workout.
  • Develop thinking teachers, not just instructors.
  • Guide clients to move with awareness and perform functional movement with ease.
  • Deepen The Pilates Method with intelligent modern movement science.

My vision is to raise the standard of Pilates in our region – so that what clients experience is not just exercises, but transformation through understanding. And Joseph Pilates’ legacy continues – stronger, clearer and uncompromised for the next generation.

- KEREN ONG

How A Client Describes Keren's Teaching

“After exploring various gyms and studios, I finally found my home at ThirdGen Pilates. For years, I struggled with lower back pain, tight neck and shoulders, and frequent headaches. I also believed that post-workout pain was just part of the process.

Then, I discovered Keren. As the owner of ThirdGen Pilates, Keren is deeply committed to the authentic teachings of Joseph Pilates. Her extensive knowledge and talent for simplifying complex movements have transformed my understanding of my body. Under her guidance, I not only leave workouts feeling rejuvenated but also carry those lessons into everyday life. For example, I’ve become much more mindful of my posture in everything I do—whether walking, sitting, or sleeping—allowing me to move through life without unnecessary pain.”

"Change happens through movement, and movement heals”

I discovered Pilates while seeking a low-impact complement to running, but found something much deeper. It transformed how I move, helping me better understand my body, build movement efficiency, and develop a stronger mind–body connection.

I’m certified with Pat Guyton Pilates Conservatory® and STOTT PILATES® (lvl 1). In my classes, I aim to create a supportive space where clients can move with intention, build strength progressively, and leave feeling more grounded, connected, and empowered.

"Movement is life."

After a lifetime of dance, I faced the challenge of recovering from kneecap surgeries and managing Fibromyalgia. Pilates helped me heal, transforming chronic pain into a strong, active life.

Now, I’m passionate about helping clients achieve their own transformation. Mentored by Second Generation Master Teacher Pat Guyton, I bring technical precision and deep empathy to every session. Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing chronic pain, or rebuilding strength and confidence, I’m here to help you move past limitations and embrace a resilient, pain-free life.

After a cycling accident two years ago, I experienced a sharp impact through my spine and saw firsthand how Pilates supported my recovery and rehabilitation. What began as a way to heal gradually became a practice that strengthened both my body and everyday movement.

Intrigued by the impact of Pilates on my body, I signed up for the instructor course by Pat Guyton Pilates Conservatory®.

Under the guidance of Pat Guyton and third-generation teacher Keren Ong, I'm now a comprehensively trained instructor dedicated to helping clients move with greater strength, ease, and confidence in daily life.

I first encountered Pilates while trying to regain fitness after childbirth, but at the time it felt unauthentic. Unconvinced, I returned to regular exercise, yet continued to struggle with stiff joints, pain, and poor postural habits. Returning to Pilates at a deeper level helped me find lasting improvements in movement and body awareness.

Trained under Master Trainer Pat Guyton at Pilates Conservatory®, I use anatomy, imagery, and movement cues to guide movement. By sharing my learning and personal experience, I hope to help others improve self-awareness, strengthen mind–body connection, and lead a healthier, more active life.

"Change happens through movement and movement heals." – Joseph Pilates

I discovered Pilates while rehabilitating from a dance injury, and it quickly became an essential part of my lifelong commitment to fitness and health. During teacher training, I realised that when people say "Pilates is a full body workout," it's not just hype — it is true. Seemingly simple exercises, performed with precision and guidance, brought real improvements to my strength, mobility, and body awareness.

Trained under Pat Guyton and Keren Ong, I now apply Pilates principles to other sports and enjoy helping clients build strength, balance, and vitality through functional movement.
